The guided tours

Ortigia, the Neapolis and Noto,
with a guide who knows them.

Walking through Siracusa — or between the golden palaces of Noto — with someone who makes it their job to explain it is a different experience altogether. The tours are led by Eleonora, an authorised tour guide specialising in Siracusa and Noto, in a small private group: just you and the guide, in Italian or English.

A private guided tour in the city usually costs around €270 for two hours. Our rates reserved for guests start from €120 per group: an authorised guide all to yourselves, not per person.

Piazza Duomo in Ortigia, baroque heart of Siracusa
No. 01

Ortigia on foot · 2 hours

The ancient heart of Siracusa, island within an island: three thousand years of history in a maze of alleys, ten minutes from the B&B. The essential walk, stop by stop.

  • approx. 2 hours
  • Private walking tour
  • Italian or English
  • We set off on foot from the B&B — Ortigia is 10 minutes away

Why choose it

Two hours to fall in love with Ortigia, the island where Siracusa was born and never left. You walk out of the B&B and ten minutes later you are inside three thousand years of history: a Greek temple that became a church, a square of golden stone that takes your breath away, a freshwater spring a stone's throw from the open sea. This is the essential walk — the right choice if you have a single morning and don't want to miss the heart of the city, told by someone who knows every alley.

The itinerary, stop by stop

  1. Temple of Apollo

At the entrance to the island, the oldest stone Doric temple in the Greek West: the starting point for reading the layers of Ortigia.

  2. Palazzo Montalto, in the Giudecca

A glimpse into the ancient Jewish quarter, in front of the 14th-century facade of Palazzo Montalto, a Gothic-Chiaramontano gem that survived the earthquakes.

  3. Piazza Archimede

Ortigia's 19th-century drawing room, around the Fountain of Diana, between the surrounding palaces and the memory of the most celebrated of Siracusans.

  4. Piazza Duomo and Cathedral

The most beautiful baroque square in Sicily and the Cathedral that incorporates the columns of the Temple of Athena, with the backdrop of Santa Lucia alla Badia.

  5. Fonte Aretusa

The freshwater spring overlooking the Porto Grande, with its papyrus plants and the myth of Arethusa and Alpheus.

  6. Seafront promenade

The walk along the Alfeo towards the tip of the island, between the open sea and the mass of Castello Maniace (exterior view).

  7. Market and alleys

The colours and voices of the historic market, then into the maze of streets between palaces and hidden courtyards.

Ortigia's alleys on foot, during the guided tours
No. 02

Ortigia on foot · 4 hours

Ortigia without rushing: the long version, deep into the Giudecca as far as the underground Jewish bath, through the churches of the centre and all the way to the tip of Castello Maniace.

  • approx. 4 hours
  • Private walking tour
  • Italian or English
  • We set off on foot from the B&B — Ortigia is 10 minutes away

Why choose it

Ortigia as those who live here know it: without rushing, with time to go inside rather than just look. Four hours to lose yourself in the silent alleys of the Giudecca, descend into the Jewish bath carved into the rock, step through the doors of the Cathedral and read two thousand years of layers from within, and walk all the way to the tip where the Swabian castle faces the open sea. This is the complete version, for those who want to understand the island — not just photograph it — and go home with a few more stories to tell.

The itinerary, stop by stop

  1. Temple of Apollo

At the entrance to the island, the oldest stone Doric temple in the Greek West: the starting point for the story of Ortigia.

  2. Piazza Archimede

The 19th-century drawing room around the Fountain of Diana, between the palaces of the centre and the memory of the greatest of Siracusans.

  3. The Giudecca

The heart of the ancient Jewish quarter: the Gothic-Chiaramontano facade of Palazzo Montalto, Via della Giudecca and the Chiesa di San Filippo Apostolo, down to the underground Jewish bath — the Miqveh carved into the rock, among the oldest in Europe (optional internal visit, ticket not included) — and the small Chiesa di San Giovannello.

  4. Piazza Duomo and Cathedral

The most beautiful baroque square in Sicily and the Cathedral that incorporates the columns of the Temple of Athena: you can go inside to read the Greek, Norman and baroque layers from within (optional internal visit, ticket not included).

  5. Santa Lucia alla Badia

The baroque jewel overlooking the square, linked to Caravaggio's canvas of the «Burial of Saint Lucy».

  6. Fonte Aretusa

The freshwater spring overlooking the Porto Grande, with its papyrus plants and the myth of Arethusa and Alpheus.

  7. Castello Maniace

Frederick II's Swabian fortress on the far tip of the island, where Ortigia closes itself to the open sea (exterior view).

  8. Seafront promenade

The return walk along the Alfeo promenade, between the sea and the palaces overlooking the water.

  9. Market and alleys

The colours and voices of the historic market and one last wander through the streets, courtyards and shops of the centre.

Included

  • Authorized tour guide for the full 4 hours
  • Tour in Italian or English
  • Private group, just you and the guide

Not included

  • Optional internal visits (Cathedral, Jewish bath): entrance fees not included, payable on site

The Greek Theatre in the Neapolis Archaeological Park
No. 03

Neapolis Archaeological Park · 2 hours

Greek and Roman Siracusa told on location: the great park where Western theatre took its first steps.

  • approx. 2 hours
  • Private walking tour
  • Italian or English
  • Meeting point at the Park entrance (or from the B&B, a few minutes away)

Why choose it

This is where the theatre we know was born. Two hours inside the great park where the Greeks carved the city into the rock: the immense cavea of the Theatre where Aeschylus premiered his plays, the cave with impossible acoustics that legend says Caravaggio named «Ear of Dionysius», the longest altar in the ancient world. With a guide to tell you what it was really like, the stones suddenly start speaking again and Greek Siracusa ceases to be a ruin and becomes a city once more.

The itinerary, stop by stop

  1. Latomie del Paradiso

The ancient stone quarries turned into a garden of citrus trees and magnolias, from which the Greeks extracted the city.

  2. Ear of Dionysius

The ear-shaped cave with extraordinary acoustics, named — so the story goes — by Caravaggio.

  3. Greek Theatre

One of the largest in the ancient world, entirely carved out of the rock: Aeschylus staged his tragedies here. It still comes to life every summer.

  4. Altar of Hiero II

The colossal monumental altar, almost 200 metres long, where the city's public sacrifices were held.

  5. Roman Amphitheatre

The arena of the imperial games, partly carved into the living rock.

Included

  • Authorized tour guide
  • Tour in Italian or English
  • Private group, just you and the guide

Not included

  • Park entrance ticket (approx. €13.50, with legal concessions and exemptions), to be purchased on site
  • Tips and personal extras
